Abstract: A current debate focuses on whether optimal cognition with age is characterized by maintaining a brain that has the structure and function of youth or whether cognition is optimized through increased brain activation and formation of new scaffolded pathways. The present talk will focus on evidence that different patterns of activation at young, middle, and old age characterize high performers.
